This self initiated project was done as part of a college assignment. The brief was to design wayfinding and signage system for any selected location. The project began with research about the location, users and materials for the signages.

Wayfinding & Signage : Dhuandhar Falls

This self initiated project was done as part of a college assignment. The brief was to design wayfinding and signage system for any selected location. The project began with research about the location, users and materials for the signages.
Dhuandhar Falls are located on Narmada River in Bhedaghat and are 30 meters high. The Narmada River, making its way through the world-famous Marble Rocks, narrows down and then plunges in a waterfall known as Dhuandhaar. The word Dhuandhar is derived from two Hindi words - Dhuan (The smoke) + Dhar (flow) meaning a waterfall where we get smoke-flow like feeling (this smoke is formed by water vapours or the smoke cascade). The plunge, which creates a bouncing mass of mist, is so powerful that it's roar is heard from a far distance.
Typography
Rajdhani
Rajdhani has modularized letterforms and supports the Devanagari and Latin writing systems. The squared and condensed appearance may be interpreted as technical or even futuristic. Typically round bowls and other letterform elements have straight sides in Rajdhani. The stroke terminals typically end in flat line segments that are horizontal or vertical, rather than diagonal. Their corners are slightly rounded, giving stroke-endings a softer feeling, rather than a pointy one.

Icon Developement
Icon Deveopment is an essential part of this project as it can communicate an idea in seconds and can transcend language barriers.
The identity of the place is an important factor for the inspiration of the icons.
For visual identification, the curves and breaking lines were picked up from the identity to be implemented in the icons.
These curves are taken up for further parts of the project as well, like the for of signage boards and the arrows
Arrows
The idea of curved edges inspired by the original form of the waterfall was kept in mind during designing the arrows.
